Reaper is necessary for RP2 death. (A) H99/+ animals (heterozygous for a deletion that removes reaper, hid, and grim) showed normal patterns of GFP-labeled neurons at 8 h-APF (A1) and RP2 death and aCC survival at 24 h-APF (A2). (B) A hidP05014/H99 animal (hid loss of function mutation) showed normal RP2 death and aCC survival at 24 h-APF. (C) In a XR38/H99 animal (reaper deletion), RP2s failed to undergo PCD and were present along with aCCs at 24 h-APF. All images are from mid-abdominal neuromeres. Scale bars: 20 μm.
