The large basal neurons in the clone lack BrdU incorporation, showing that they were born before hatching. The red-framed area is represented in the individual sections. (B) Three neuroblast clones in the lateral thorax at the start of the third larval instar (approximately 72 h after egg laying), showing that the basal neurons express Br-Z3 at this time.
